Voices of Vow: Kumuduni Abeysinghe
From engineering to sustainable solutions
With a background in chemical engineering and experience from both the chemical industry and the water treatment sector, Kumuduni Abeysinghe has built her career around environmental engineering and sustainable solutions. Early in her career, working with water treatment sparked a strong interest in environmental impact – an interest that later led her to pursue further studies in Norway.
After five years of studies, Kumuduni made a deliberate decision to restart her career within environmental engineering, the field she is most passionate about.
“I wanted to work with solutions that truly make a difference,” she says. That decision brought her to Vow, where she now works as a Project Developer, contributing to the development of innovative pyrolysis technology for sustainable waste treatment.
Collaboration at the core
Kumuduni works in the Commercial Department, supporting the land-based sales team in developing projects that meet customer needs. Her role is highly collaborative and involves close interaction with colleagues across the organization. Her responsibilities include identifying suitable upstream and downstream equipment together with technical teams, collaborating with supply chain to find vendors and pricing options, and preparing cost calculations for potential projects.
“Every project is a team effort,” she explains. “That’s what I enjoy the most.”
Learning through real projects
What motivates Kumuduni is seeing how industries are shifting towards decarbonization and low-emission solutions. Evaluating a wide range of customer requests provides insight into how sustainable technologies are applied in real-world projects.
